Rejoice! Summer is over, it’s time for nights in and mugs of hot chocolate. Oh and the usual crap ton of video games to destroy our wallets. Here is a rundown of what’s to come!
Release: Out Now
I was horribly late to playing the original Darksiders. I only ever heard good things about the original, but only when it became free on PlayStation Plus did I give it a spin. And I was hooked from the off-set, a great setting, cool lore and awesome combat converted me into a Darksiders fan boy. The sequel like it’s predecessor is getting good reviews and it looks like it has hit a good balance of moving on but also keeping what made the first great.
Release: Out Now
Transformer: War for Cybertron when released a few years back was pretty much universally loved. Not by me though, I found it clunky, unfair and it glitched like a mofo on my PS3 regularly. So coming into the sequel I was quite “Meh”. How wrong was I? This is a stunning improvement over the original. I am hooked on the games story, jumping from Autobots to Decepticons doesn’t feel like a gimmick anymore and seeing the struggle on both sides really is enthralling. The characters control much better and you feel like a badass as you last through battle fields as Optimus and the gang. The multi-player isn’t bad either.
Release: September
For some reason I skipped the original borderlands, everybody told me it was good, but I think I was too deep into my studies at the time to listen. From previews Borderlands 2 looks to more of the same, randomness, big guns, deep character customisation and loads of Co-Op fun. I am looking forward to this, if only to blast away a few fools with my friends, at a time where first person shooters seems to all looks the same, it’s great to see a game in this genre doing something wacky and different.
Release: September
Love it or hate it, the FIFA football franchise is huge. It sells millions worldwide, each and every year. So it’s of course of no surprise that FIFA 13 is coming. As with most FIFA games that come towards the tale end of consoles life, the changes and improvements will come mainly in the gameplay department. More intelligent players (and hopefully goal keepers), better ball control and a deep management system are all promised this year. Sure this won’t be a revolution of the franchise but that won’t stop us football nuts buying it. I’m sure going to miss Wayne Rooney on the cover though
Release: October
This is probably the most controversial title on the list. Alot of gamers simply cannot forgive Capcom for the direction they have taken the Resident Evil franchise in. Less horror and more action has been the recipe since Resident Evil 4, that game had the right balance however Resi 5 went in a completely action focused direction. It was hoped the newest iteration would go back to its roots, but this simply has not been the case. I personally enjoyed number 5 for what it was, a fun co-op action adventure. Previews for this title have been quite harsh and the demo apparently left a lot to be desired, lets hope Capcom get it together and make this game great. I fear if it isn’t received will, it could be the nail in the coffin for Resident Evil, fans can only take so much heartbreak after all.
Release: October
This a biggie right? We have waited so damn long for this title to drop in our consoles. Sitting through the endless, fairly average and samey “sequels” through the years has been a thorn in the side of gamers. This has been one we have been waiting for, a new setting, new protagonist and radically overhauled game play. If this is as promising as it looks this could easily be game of the year material and expect this game to be everywhere come October. I really can’t wait to get to grips with Connors story (and Desmond’s too), if you aren’t looking forward to this then we may have to fall out.
