I was invited to a press preview by the lovely folk at Meccano. The night included a free bar, finger food, bowling, a goodie bag AND importantly an exclusive look at some new toys….
Meccano is company I have always had an interest in, mostly due to spending hours creating sets with my obsessed little siblings. So safe to say I was quite excited to get my hands on what they were displaying on the night.
Meccano has teamed up with some of the biggest game publishers out there, to create some awesome new models. They come in the form of the hugely popular Raving Rabbids series, Sonic and Gears of War. I was quite surprised by just how great they have turned out and they really have made good use of the licenses. The Gears King Raven Helicopter was especially eye catching due to it’s massive size and I really can’t wait to build one of my own! Check them out below:[nggallery id=11]
The pictures really don’t do these toys justice, as the attention to detail on them is amazing. From sets based on Sonics iconic Green Hill Zone to cute little models of Marcus Fenix and the rest of the Gears. Some of these sets (the Gears ones especially) will no doubt find an adult gamer base who will want to collect and create some of them, while of course kids will instantly fall in love with just how much fun they are to play with.
I was lucky enough to be given two sets (pictured above) which me and my brother intend to build soon. Once done we both will be putting up our thoughts on these in a later blog post.
I would like to thank the guys at Meccano for inviting me along and hosting what was a great night. The bowling was quite a highlight, as I was reminded just how much I still (and always will) suck at bowling >.
Some of the sets are available to buy right now such as the Meccano Gears of War C.O.G. Centaur Tank and the Meccano Sonic and Knuckles Chemical Plant Racing Playset (with some coming later this year), it really wouldn’t surprise me if these sets fly off the shelves during the upcoming Christmas period! So get them while you can folks!
