'Super Monkey Ball' needs to cut out the nonsense a provide another classic.
'Silent Hill' is a great shout.
'Crash Bandicoot' was getting all a bit weird, I think the time is right for a solid, high budget, beautiful looking and playing platformer. Either that or 'Ratchet & Clank' which dying a slow unnecessary multiplayer focused death.

It's worth noting that even a literal HD return to its roots couldn't save the 'Tony Hawk' series.
'Sonic the Hedgehog' has had a couple of failed attempts at returning to its roots and continues to be crap.

I think there are also games that need to escape from their roots a little (perhaps another post) an obvious choice despite last year's success is the 'Zelda' series and to contradict this blog post I'd argue that 'Final Fantasy' has been stuck in its legacy trappings for years and I'm looking forward to what looks like a reinvention with XIV.

Finally 'Resident Evil' is now absolute ****ing ****. It doesn't deserve any more chances. It is so, so bad.
