@gb 'the weakest tech' is a phrase that means nothing. It could be claimed that the 64's cartridge format choice was the weaker tech in comparison to the CDs seen elsewhere or that the Wii remote was the stronger tech in the current generation. Tech means nothing, it's about the service and of course, the games.

@Holyfire You are spouting nonsense. Apart from the fact that it seems like you type with your elbows and you only learnt English this morning, I think you are blind to the realities of the industry as it stands. To think that 'Android' style games is a positive thing to garner interest in a 'cutting-edge' home games console is madness.

@Joy Sony have deep flaws as a company but I'd love to hear you try and elaborate on 'they're at best a nightmare for the industry' this is obviously wrong and to post it is a little thoughtless.

Personally I believe Nintendo have taken a massive misstep with the WiiU design. It doesn't appeal to me for a few reasons.
Firstly, I do not want another big tablet thing cluttering my flat. I have so many screens and controllers already dotted about, one of this size is not a welcomed addition and I am yet to see a game that uses it in a way that makes me go either 'WOW!!' or 'BLIMEY!!'
Secondly and most importantly, the games are not there yet. I bought the Wii for Wii Sports, what will I buy the WiiU for? Potentially ZombieU, possibly NintendoLand; the prospect (at this stage) is not enough to get me to purchase. I would love to want a WiiU, I would love to play a great Nintendo game on a WiiU right now I don't feel I can.
Thirdly, because Nintendo's online services have no real legacy of merit it is incredibly easy for me to cut my ties with Nintendo. I am most heavily invested in the PlayStation Network. I have my friends there, I have my trophies there and I have my previous purchases there. If I was to consider cutting ties with Sony the loss of my investment in PSN is something I would have to seriously consider. Nintendo's slowness out the blocks with online is all the more significant as consoles become more service-based in their nature.

I remember watching the E3 reveal of the 3DS and was immediately sold on the concept. I did then briefly question the commercial viability with it's release and initial slow sales. Obviously Nintendo have turned it around and the library is already full of quality titles with the newly announced wave full of excitement and promise. My faith has been restored.
I never had faith in WiiU. I have never been excited by WiiU. I am questioning the commercial viability but I see no future. The design concept is flawed and dated in my opinion and therefore I can't even see Nintendo AAA titles saving the console.

It was a 3DS Nintendo Direct... Not a Wii U one.

I'm expecting lots of good news about the console at E3 though.
E3 probably has larger coverage, and with the Wii U under-performing they wanted Wii U news to get more coverage than 3DS news (because the 3DS is already doing incredibly).

This is just my take on it, anyway.

Nintendo will impress at E3. Won't comment on 720, as they've revealed almost nothing yet, but as for PS4, it will cost a fortune to own , looking like its about to suffer major delays in most territories, and come launch will suffer software delays too.
WiiU is in position to reap major of the indie market considering its design rivals the mobile market so well. There are trailers coming out for brand new "android" style games.
And Nintendo since the dawn of gaming has only just barely been hitting any losses in the last couple years. And honestly if Nintendo hadn't done some of the things they had, gaming would just be FPSs on dual analogue.
Nintendo still lead Sony and M'soft as they've literally been copying Nintendo to garner its success (primarily with Wii)
Its a very diluted and tough market these days, Sony goers have only just bpught their PS3s in the last 2 years after the slowest start. And PS3 was in a far better economic climate. PS4 will have a slower uptake and just as hard a time of not more so than WiiU to get off the ground
