I think I'll always prefer physical items over digital, but that's not to say I don't love it any less. The only problem I can think of for DD is piracy, it seems like that may go on forevermore. I love the fact that we can play games, listen to music, watch classic movies etc at a click of a button for a reasonable price and not have to scour the internet for the physical thing and possibly pay over the odds for it.

Thinking games, it has enabled so much more in the gaming industry, for example many developers who cannot afford to distribute physical copies (or several other reasons) are selling them digitally which is fantastic!

Nice article, I never really gave much thought into DD but this is definitely an eye opener.

I've sort of come around to the digital distribution thing now, but I'm still not happy about how much control the distributors have over you post-purchase, usually forever, and I'm still rather attached to physical media. You will never match the feeling of new goods arriving at your door, or picking up the boxes years later - maybe even popping that disc into the tray again in excitement. Not everyone wants to wave their arms at the screen for a few gimmicks though. Your comments about motion control seem quite out of place in this article.
